Meet the Team: Spotlight on Linda Hurst, Head of Clinical Services

Meet the Team: Spotlight on Linda Hurst, Head of Clinical Services
11 February 2025William WinderNews

At MAK Community Care, our team is at the heart of everything we do, and this week, we’re thrilled to spotlight Linda Hurst, our Head of Clinical Services.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

We do the right things for the right reasons. Our People We Support (PWS) are at the centre of all decisions, and we genuinely care for and look after our staff.

How long have you been with MAK?

Only since December 2024, but it feels like I’ve been here forever!

What does an average day look like for you?

I usually arrive at the office early, check in, and set up my laptop. I start by checking emails, LMC incidents, Breathe for sickness and annual leave requests, My Learning Cloud, and TEAMS. I action anything that needs immediate attention. As staff arrive, I make sure everyone is okay and ready for the day. The rest of my day is usually split between supervisions, updating policies, deep diving into sickness and training, managing university students, medication management, risk management, and any other tasks Sarah may assign, like auditing support, PBS plans, and risk assessments.

What’s the most challenging or rewarding part of your role?
Trying to fit everything into my day is definitely a challenge, but it’s also incredibly rewarding when everything comes together.

What inspired you to work in the care industry?
I’ve been a Nurse (both Mental Health and General) for over 40 years. I’ve had a long and varied career, working with surgical patients, the elderly, people with learning disabilities, and those facing mental health challenges. My experience spans general hospitals, mental health rehabilitation hospitals, low secure hospitals, domiciliary care, supported living, and nursing homes. I’ve held roles from Staff Nurse to Deputy Home Manager, Registered Home Manager, Regional Manager, Director of Nursing and Head of Care, Project Manager, Branch Manager, and even Recruitment Consultant. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse since I was very young, and I could never see myself working in any other sector. People interest me, and if I can make a difference, then I’m happy.

Do you have any interesting hobbies or a fun fact about yourself?
I love walking, swimming, cycling, reading, and spending time with my family. I’m also a season ticket holder for Sale Sharks, a Rugby Union team that I follow around the country—I love my boys! Next year, I’m going on a safari for my 60th birthday, and I can’t wait!
