Celebrating Social Care: Meet Pete, Service Manager

This April, Skills for Care is once again #CelebratingSocialCare, a wonderful opportunity to recognise the amazing individuals who work in care. Here at MAK Community Care, we’re thrilled to join in the celebrations, shining a spotlight on our team members who go the extra mile every day. This week, we’d like you to meet our Service Manager, Pete. Pete plays a vital role in keeping everything running smoothly. Hear more from him…
Q: Could you tell us a bit about yourself and what your role as Service Manager involves?
A: I’m Pete, and I’m the Service Manager at Gainsborough. My role is all about keeping things on track – I’m out and about a lot, checking in with staff, making sure any incidents are dealt with, and talking to residents regularly. Very much making sure everything runs as smoothly as possible day to day.
Q: What do you love most about your job at MAK Community Care?
A: Blimey, that’s a tricky one… honestly, all of it! Even the tough days have their moments, and the good days always make up for the rest. I really do enjoy the whole lot.
Q: How long how you been at MAK, and what does an average day look like for you?
A: I’ve been with MAK for a little over two years now. There’s no such thing as a typical day in this job! For us in management, we usually start by checking any incidents from the day before – or from the weekend if it’s a Monday. Then it’s a case of catching up with the team, making sure everyone’s alright. That’s the heart of it really – just making sure people are okay and supported.
Q: And what inspired you to work in the care industry?
A: That would be my wife, actually! She’s worked with Sarah, who runs MAK, and she kept saying I’d be good at it. I’ve got a background in sales, not care, but after a bit of persuading I thought I’d give it a go – and here I am!
Q: Finally, do you have any hobbies, or is there something interesting about you people might not know?
A: Well, before this I worked in security – and I actually looked after the Royal family once! That’s probably my favourite claim to fame.
Stay tuned throughout April as we continue to celebrate our fantastic team and the remarkable work they do each day!
